Although consumers spent more on restaurants than groceries in 2024, grocery store foot traffic still climbed 10.9% from 2019, revealing that people are shopping smarter rather than less. Shoppers are visiting multiple grocers, comparing prices, and gravitating toward private-label and discount options. Grocers are responding by refining strategies, including discounter and omnichannel expansions, as they compete for a larger share of consumers’ wallets.
