If your 2020 New Year’s resolution is to make exercise a priority, we have a new place in town that will help make you fit and calmer. One Yoga, located at the corner of 3rd and Depot Street, recently opened its door to the Morgan Hill community on January 1, 2020.
Last week we sat down with Angela Cushing, Manager of the One Yoga and talked about the new studio and what it has to offer to the Morgan Hill community.
How long has your company been around?
“Yoga Source, located in Los Gatos, is the parent company of One Yoga. Yoga Source is a premier yoga studio that attracts people from across the Bay Area as far as San Francisco. Both studios are owned by Linda and Steve McGrath. Linda McGrath is a renowned yoga teacher and is the director of Yoga Source Teacher Training Institute since its inception in 2006. Over the years, Linda McGrath has nurtured hundreds of yoga instructors from across the country.”
Classes Offered?
“As of today, we offer 40 yoga and Pilates classes. We are open between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., schedule and times vary daily. As we grow, we will add and refine our classes to meet the needs of the community.”
For someone that is new to yoga, which one of your classes would you recommend?
“I would recommend either gentle yoga or Yogasource flow classes for a yoga newbie.”
Gentle Yoga - Involves longer holds during stretches.
Yogasource Flow- Is a little bit more vigorous than gentle yoga. Class is always conducted in the same format which allows you to learn the names of the postures.
What is the difference between yoga and Pilates?
“They are very different techniques. The biggest difference between Pilates and yoga is the ultimate goal. Yoga provides a meditative environment for you to improve your overall quality of life. It focuses on stress relief while improving your body. Pilates works from the center of your body outward. It forces you to increase your body awareness and work from your core, resulting in a stronger body.“
“The Pilates that we offer here is also very different from your standard Pilates. Our hot Pilates was created by Gabriella Walters, a renowned teacher based in Las Vegas. It is a high intensity exercise in a heated room. We offer both hour and hot Pilates express (45 minute) classes.“
Why did you choose Morgan Hill?
“We chose Morgan Hill for many reasons. We are a people business and knowing that most of our current staff was available to come and deliver the same excellence of instruction and service was really important to us. We had received many requests over the years, but especially recently, from local residents who, despite best intentions, could not make it to Los Gatos as often they wanted in order to practice with us. We feel Morgan Hill is one of the next high-growth hotspots in the Bay Area, and we want to be a part of that momentum. We have been blown away by the reception of the community - everyone has been so gracious and welcoming, and we couldn’t be more grateful!"
