Join the City of Morgan Hill in Downtown Morgan Hill as they close the road to vehicle traffic and open it to non-vehicular activities and entertainment along Monterey Road. Walk, Bike, or roll through Downtown and enjoy the businesses, restaurants, Farmers' Market, and Sidewalk Saturday events taking place nearby. What started out as a way to support local home-based makers and brick n mortar retailers during the pandemic, has since morphed into a beloved community event embodying the Buy Local spirit. The Grand Opening of the 4th season of Sidewalk Saturdays will kick-off on Saturday April 1 and feature over 20 vendors. The 2023 Spring season will take place every Saturday between April 1-June 24, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., on 3rd street in Downtown Morgan Hill. In January 2022, the City Council approved the creation of a Downtown community parklet project to create additional community space. City staff would like to hear your thoughts about the ideas to program the community parklet, as well as explore other Downtown activation ideas. Please join us for a presentation at the Community and Cultural Center El Toro Room on Monday March 6, 2023. Even when considering the California exodus, tech sector layoffs, and headquarter relocations, the state of Silicon Valley is not all doom and gloom. Since June 2022, Silicon Valley has added 88,000 new jobs and has a current unemployment rate of 2%. Between 2020-2022, approximately 91,000 people left Silicon Valley, however 50% of them still live within driving distance. The recently announced 11,000 tech layoffs represent 0.7% of Silicon Valley’s total employment and experts predict the final layoff percentage to come in somewhere around 2%. Silicon Valley lost four major headquarters, but experienced 20,000 patent registrations: one of the highest numbers in the Valley’s history.

Morgan Hill was voted one of the top 9 San Jose Suburbs to live in, according to a recent blog post from Redfin. The City’s small-town vibe, outdoor recreation activities, open-air markets, community events, and deep historical roots are top selling points for many San Jose employees looking to work but not live in the “Capital of Silicon Valley.”

For more than 41 years, the Mushroom Mardi Gras has been a celebrated community event in Morgan Hill. This year, not only the name but the event layout and attendance will look different. Ongoing security concerns since the 2019 Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting and a two-year event hiatus due to the pandemic, have forced the event’s Board of Director’s to reimagine the festival. This year, the new and improved Morgan Hill Mushroom Festival will span Monterey Rd, Dunne Ave, and the Community & Cultural Center parking lot. To conform to required enhanced security protocols, chain-link fencing will be placed around the entire festival perimeter. To cover the cost of the enhanced security measures, estimated to cost around $60k, festival goers will be charged an entrance fee of $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and military. Children under the age of 12 will receive free admission. Attendees can expect to enjoy the same arts & crafts vendors, cooking demos, and live music that the festival is known for, just in a more controlled environment.
