4Q23 Sales tax results

By Brittney Sherman

Similar to the State (-2.5%), County (-2.8%), and Bay Area (-4.9%) sales tax results, Morgan Hill’s 4th quarter numbers were also down year-over-year. This decrease is mainly contributed to a 21% decline in the food and drug group, a 4.1% decline in the auto and transportation group, and fluctuating prices of fuel and building materials. As a result of in-store and online holiday purchases the general consumer goods group increased, along with the restaurant and hotel group as patrons continued dining locally despite increasing menu prices.
