10 Bills passed to combat retail theft

In an effort to reduce the plague of retail theft on California businesses, Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed 10 bills into law. One of the bills allows prosecutors to add up retail crimes across several areas to achieve a felony grand theft charge, and another removes loopholes to allow for the prosecution of organized retail criminals who assault employees and cause store damage.

Locals know that Tuesday nights mean $3 salmon tacos at Rosy’s at the Beach, but now so does everyone else! A recent article in the Mercury News listed the top eight best fish tacos in the Bay Area and the $3 salmon tacos at Rosy’s at the Beach made the cut. Since 1998, the restaurant has been offering top-notch seafood sourced from Moss Landing, along with weekly specials and monthly dinner pairings.

California leads the way for ZEV sales and manufacturing jobs

EV vehicle purchases gained momentum in the 2nd quarter of 2024, representing 1 in 4 of all vehicle purchases made during that time. This increase, exceeding EV purchases from the previous quarter by 10,000 vehicles, shows consumers’ support of Governor Newsom’s executive order to require that all new vehicle sales be ZEVs by 2035.

According to a recent article published on the California Governor’s website, the state of California leads the way in ZEV manufacturing jobs and the state accounts for approximately 34% of all new ZEV sales made across the United States.

California: home of Olympians

Approximately 20% of the 2024 Olympic athletes hailed from California, the largest representation of athletes from any state. A total of 22 medals, six of them gold, were won by California athletes. In January 2023, Assembly Bill 2747 went into effect, supporting Olympic hopefuls by offering in-state tuition for U.S. Olympians and Paralympians wanting to train in the golden state. The state of California will continue its support of the games as Los Angeles takes the torch as the host City of the Summer Olympic and Paralympic games in 2028.

The company was formed through the acquisition of TenCate Advanced Composites and is a leader in high-performance materials, serving aerospace, space, automotive, and industrial sectors. The Morgan Hill facilities focus on advanced thermoplastic and thermoset composites, which are vital for reducing weight and enhancing performance in high-tech applications. Toray employes 260 people and is currently hiring for 5 positions.
